Residential Pest Control Advice
Professional pest control treatments are an important part of keeping insects and rodents away from your home. A yearly pest inspection by a fully trained and licenced pest control company should be enough to keep those cockroaches and other insect away.
Preparing your Home for Treatment
When having a pest treatment done, its best to give the house a good clean before the pest control company arrives. Cleaning will ensure the surfaces that the sprays are applied to are free from dust and contaminates. This will make for a much more effective treatment and also help the products to last until the next inspection is due.
To help with the control of cockroaches, it is best to keep kitchen cupboards clean and paying particular attention to the hinges. It’s the hinges where cockroaches will lay eggs and congregate. When a pest control company does a treatment, they would treat the hinges with a Gel. This is a product that the cockroach eats and it is placed on and around the hinges of cupboards in the kitchen area and especially on the food cupboard hinges.
Microwaves and Dishwasher
The Gels can also be applied to the backs of microwaves and dishwasher hinges; these are areas that can’t be treated with a liquid spray for safety reasons due to electrical wires. Another good product to use in and around kitchens is a Dust; these are usually applied to the underneath of microwaves or fridges. A light covering is all that is needed for effective use. The insects run over the dust and it is then ingested into the body.
In the case of an infestation of cockroaches like in the picture below, a thorough inspection then treatment is required. This is then to be backed up with a second treatment between 2-4 weeks later. In the meantime, the home owner is to give the area a thorough clean ready for the second treatment.
