Carpets can become problematic when they start getting unpleasant smells. This could simply be caused by dampness or moist in the carpet that breeds microorganisms causing the smell. They may also be caused by urine from a pet or from smoke, which is highly possible if someone in the house smokes. Whatever the reason, it is important to remove the stench to bring back the pleasant smell of the carpets.
Since you could already be immune to the foul smell, you can ask a friend to tell you if there is indeed unpleasant odour coming from your carpet. Some smells can be remedied easily by vacuum cleaning the carpet or by applying ordinary substances, such as baking soda to the fabric. But if the stench is beyond your capability, you can seek the help of a good carpet cleaning company.
Simple cleaning of the carpet will not ensure the complete removal of the foul odour. Even if the smell has diminished, it could still come back after a few days. Baking soda is a wonder household remedy for a lot of odour problems in the house. It may be able to remedy the stench problem of the carpet by neutralising the smell. Care must be taken, however, in applying the baking soda to the carpet fibres as this may discolour your carpet. Do not use a freshener to cover up the bad odour as this would only worsen the stench.
The best way to treat smelly carpets is to get some help from a professional carpet cleaner. It would be good to note though that not all carpet cleaners offer the same service, so you have to check what they offer and if their methods are effective. Look into the process they are using. It would be good to find a company that uses a deodorising method after the actual vacuum cleaning process to neutralise the odour of the carpet. To make sure that your carpet is protected from harsh cleaning elements, hire only a service that uses environmentally sound cleaning solutions because they will surely be safe to use on carpet fabrics. Lastly, the final process should ensure that no moisture is left in the carpet. Moisture would only promote the growth of odour-causing bacteria in the carpet fabrics.
Getting rid of foul smells in the carpet can be tricky. There are solutions that can be found at home, but to be sure that you completely remove the foul stench from the carpet, it would be good to find a reputable carpet cleaner.
